When to Call the PST for Assistance Last Updated: 2014-05-04

Be sure to call the Ontario Principals' Council (OPC) at 416-322-6600/1-800-701-2362 and ask to speak with a protective services consultant when:

  • you are facing discipline, demotion or dismissal from the board
  • a complaint has been filed with the Ontario College of Teachers, Human Rights Tribunal, your board of education or police department against you and/or when you are called as a witness
  • you are notified that there is a human rights issue
  • there are complaints or accusations against you from union members
  • you are having difficulty with a supervisory officer, principal or vice-principal
  • you have been contacted by the police to release information
  • you are contacted by Child and Family Services (CAS) about an investigation
  • you are contemplating staff discipline
  • you are dealing with a difficult parent
  • questions arise about long-term disability, pension and retirement, returning from disability, leaves of absences, transfer to another board
  • principals/vice-principals in the board are having difficulty with senior administration
  • you are served with a subpoena or statement of claim.

When there's been a serious accident, or you are dealing with a school crisis, or there is significant media involvement, take all the appropriate first steps according to board procedures. Call OPC.
