Be sure to call the Ontario Principals' Council (OPC) at 416-322-6600/1-800-701-2362 and ask to speak with a protective services consultant when:
- you are facing discipline, demotion or dismissal from the board
- a complaint has been filed with the Ontario College of Teachers, Human Rights Tribunal, your board of education or police department against you and/or when you are called as a witness
- you are notified that there is a human rights issue
- there are complaints or accusations against you from union members
- you are having difficulty with a supervisory officer, principal or vice-principal
- you have been contacted by the police to release information
- you are contacted by Child and Family Services (CAS) about an investigation
- you are contemplating staff discipline
- you are dealing with a difficult parent
- questions arise about long-term disability, pension and retirement, returning from disability, leaves of absences, transfer to another board
- principals/vice-principals in the board are having difficulty with senior administration
- you are served with a subpoena or statement of claim.
When there's been a serious accident, or you are dealing with a school crisis, or there is significant media involvement, take all the appropriate first steps according to board procedures. Call OPC.
