Liability insurance provides a defence and indemnification for claims made against the insured, arising out of negligence and causing bodily injury or property damage.

A court may hold the employer liable for the negligence of its employees in the absence of any fault of the employer. The employer can also be held liable for its action or failure to act.

Most district school boards in Ontario are insured through the Ontario School Board Insurance Exchange (OSBIE).
