Stand-Up Meetings
For very brief meetings, consider calling a “stand-up” staff meeting.
A stand-up meeting saves time settling in.
It clearly signals that the meeting is designed to pass along information,
not to engage in discussion or decision-making.
Wait until everyone has assembled before making your announcements.

Developing a Staff Meeting Agenda Template Collaboratively
In order to engage all faculty members in regularly scheduled meetings, staff use an
appreciative inquiry approach to establish and agree on format and timelines for
important discussion items and what is important to be considered as a time frame
for activities.

Discovering the Possibilities
Ice Breaker: (5 minutes)
Turn to the person sitting on your right. Adjust your chairs so that you are facing
each other. Ask the question: Tell me a story about a time when you were on the
way to an event and you felt excited. What was the event? Why were you excited?
Discover: (20 minutes)
Turn to the person sitting on your left. Adjust your chairs so that you are facing each other. If you would like more space, please feel free to move with your partner anywhere in this room or the adjoining room. This activity will take approximately 20 minutes.
- Tell a story about a time when you really enjoyed meeting with all staff at a staff meeting or other professional development session. What happened?
How did it happen? Who was there?
- What three wishes do you have for staff individually or collectively as we
work together for student success?
Dream: (15 minutes)
Return to the table where you originally sat. Choose one person at the table as the
recorder. Share the most significant points of your stories and record the good ideas
on the flip chart paper provided. Each table will be asked to share one point.
Share and record the three wishes that you have for staff individually or collectively
as we work together to ensure that our students are successful.
Design: (10 minutes)
What should be the ideal? What will we do at staff meetings? How will we work
together?
Wrap-up
Organizations grow in the direction that we repeatedly ask questions about and focus our attention on.
