A contract with an individual or company is legally binding. Contracts therefore
should be controlled and authorized centrally through the business office and not
through the school, wherever possible.
Sales representatives who attempt to negotiate a contract directly with the school
should be referred to the purchasing department.
Considerations include:
- length of contract
- terms and penalties
- board standards.
It is important to note that a contract stays with the school; therefore, if a principal is
transferred, the new principal is bound by the existing contract that may limit his/her
options for the future.
