A principal is accountable to the Employer. Areas that can attract complaints against principals include:
- Failing to comply with board policy and procedure
- Committing a criminal act
- Engaging in discrimination (Ontario Humans Right Code)
- Engaging in workplace harassment (An Educator’s Guide to Understanding Workplace Harassment by Sarah A. Colman, Allyson L. Otten).
- Misuse of funds.
A negative finding can result in progressive discipline, up to and including dismissal – verbal warning, letter to file, suspension, demotion, dismissal. See chapter on Supervision of Staff Performance and Behaviour for sample discipline letters.
