The principal is responsible for the safekeeping of the assets of the school including:
- athletic equipment
- computers
- equipment
- furniture
- musical instruments.
It is recommended that schools maintain an inventory of these assets to assist in any
insurance claims and to help the teaching staff monitor the equipment under their
direct control.
The board’s risk management staff can also offer recommendations on proper
location and securing of the assets.
Assets that are deemed surplus to the school should be reported to the business
office to ensure appropriate reallocation or disposal.
