1. Review the preventive health programs currently offered through the board, which might include:
- date rape
- eating disorders
- head lice
- healthy schools
- safe driving/impaired driving
- sexual abstinence
- sexually transmitted diseases/hepatitis
- smoking cessation
- substance abuse
- suicide
- sun protection/skin cancer.
Several of the above intervention programs are culturally sensitive and require careful handling.
2. Review the services currently offered at the school that contribute to a comprehensive school health program. These might include:
- after-school programs
- dental and oral health
- fire department
- health unit
- mental health/depression
- nutrition/weight management/cafeteria services
- physicians
- police
- pre-school/school readiness programs
- school-based health centres (treatment/rehabilitation)
- school and community social workers/psychologists
- speech/hearing/sight.
