From approximately 2002 through 2010, amendments to the Education Act, Regulations and PPMs significantly changed the behaviour and discipline regime in Ontario schools. From the Ministry’s perspective, these changes were intended to “more effectively combine discipline with opportunities for students to continue their education.” The vast majority of these changes have been captured in board policies and procedures regarding student behaviour, discipline and safety and as a result, adherence to these documents continues to be important. Among others, these policies and procedures might include titles such as:
- Access to School Sites.
- Appropriate/Acceptable use of Technology.
- Bullying/cyberbullying.
- Code of Conduct.
- Crisis Response Plan.
- Critical Incident Policy and Procedures.
- Discipline.
- Police/School Board Protocol.
- Safe Schools, Safe and Caring Schools.
- Progressive Discipline.
- Search and Seizure.
- Substance Abuse.
- Suspension and Expulsion Policy.
- Tragic Events Team.
- Weapons.
- Withdrawal of Transportation Privileges.
