Prior to determining whether or not to impose progressive discipline, particularly suspensions and expulsion recommendations, it is imperative that you document your consideration of the mitigating and other factors with respect to the student. Some boards have developed a form to assist with this task and if your board has such a form you must use it. The OPC has also prepared a form drawing not only from O. Reg. 472/07 but also decisions of the Child and Family Services Review Board (CFSRB). The CFSRB hears expulsion appeals and interprets how the mitigating and other factors should be applied in the school setting.
