In 2004, the Ontario Human Rights Commission published the Guidelines on
Accessible Education (Guidelines). The Guidelines are meant to clarify to education
supporters and students with disabilities the Commission’s interpretation of their
duties and rights under the Code under the following areas:
- principles of accommodation
- creating a welcoming environment for students
- the accommodation process
- the right to confidentiality and disclosure of disability-related information
- appropriate accommodation
- accommodation planning,
- the undue hardship standard
- roles and responsibilities of those involved in the accommodation process.
