When a principal transfers from one school to another, or retires, it is important that
he/she leaves the school in good financial order for the new principal, including a
reconciled bank account and budget surplus position. This includes the transfer of
signing authorities on any school bank account(s). The ‘Do unto others’ adage
applies; you would not want to inherit a school with financial problems.
Principals must follow board direction faithfully and seek assistance whenever necessary.
Caution should be the watchword when it comes to financial management.
